Home Energy Audits

What is a home energy audit?

A home energy assessment, also known as a home energy audit, can help you understand the whole picture of your home's energy use, comfort, and safety. An assessment can help you determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is inefficient, and which problem areas and fixes you should prioritize to save energy and improve the comfort of your home. A home energy assessment should be your first step before making energy-saving home improvements, as well as before adding a renewable energy system to your home.

What this includes:

  • Safety checks of all gas appliances for draft and carbon monoxide problems with a CO device and draft meter

  • CAZ (combustion appliance zone) testing which is the area that your water heater, furnace, wall/floor heater, and/or boiler is located as well as your gas fireplace, gas stove, gas oven, gas broiler, and even your gas dryer to a lesser degree. This is an important test to determine if appliances will vent properly under the most negative house conditions that assessors/inspectors can create within the appliance location.

  • Blower door test (whole house infiltration) to determine how much air is entering or escaping the home.

  • Duct pressure test (duct leakage)

  • Health and Safety hazard inspection

  • Pressure pan testing to spot location of any leaks.

  • Attic inspection including sealing, venting and insulation

  • Written report of conclusion including problems and areas of most improvement and benefits of each measure. This includes any recommendations for home improvement plus an estimate of work that can be completed by Oakridge Energy.
